Red Light Therapy is a technology that uses light waves of a specific wavelength to stimulate cellular processes, promoting wellness and healing.
Nowadays you can find a lot of information on the internet if you try searching in the Google search bar on your computer: "Red Light Therapy" however, there is also a lot of false information you can find on the web. In fact, we on the NoMore team are here to remind you to always rely on a physician or a professional to treat your problems, and we are also here to introduce and walk you by the hand through the wonders that Red Light is bringing into American homes every day. This is precisely why we carefully select only the best studies and scientific demonstrations that are FDA-approved or otherwise written and reviewed by leading American medical studies.
If this is not your first time coming across RLT you will already know that there are already a myriad of scientific studies supporting the fact that this particular and innovative type of therapy is backed by demonstrations and tests conducted in laboratories, if you still have any doubts about the functioning and effectiveness of this 100% natural therapy then read "Is Red Light Therapy Safe? Is Red Light Therapy Dangerous?" and "How Red Light Therapy Works?" to shake off any doubts you may have!
Anyway, today we are going to do a dive regarding the use of Red Light when melanomas are present on your skin.
According to our country's association the American Cancer Society in [1] it is reported that in 2024 about between 100,640 new melanomas will be diagnosed and about 8290 people are expected to die of melanoma. Information is always necessary before embarking on any kind of therapy even if Red Light is a 100% natural remedy, in fact it is always better to prevent than to cure.
Let's start right off on the accelerator by saying that Red Light can hurt you. Yes, if you are pregnant or suffer from special photosensitivity conditions then it is recommended to avoid using RLT. This does not mean that if you are exposed to this light you die, but actually constant and long exposure during the week is contraindicated.
According to the study [2] reported in Journal of Photochemistry and Photobiology B: Biology it is written that Red Light can also cause damage depending on the type of pigmentation of your skin. This is true for the use of NIR (Near Infrared Therapy) but not for RLT such as the one used by us at NoMore, in fact the former has more aggressive wavelength than the latter and therefore could cause some damage if you have certain types of skin pigmentation.
What is certain is that both lights remain safer than the sun's UV rays, which are instead known to damage the DNA of skin cells.
As you know melanoma can be benign or malignant. But still it remains a type of skin cancer that over time can change and in some cases if not treated immediately can become so aggravated that it can even lead to death. So the question we ask is: Can Red Light Aggravate Melanoma?
No, RLT does not contribute to the proliferation of cancer cells where present. In fact, with regard to the impact of this therapy on cancer, one of the most important questions concerns the impact on malignant cells, and the answer found is that there is no danger. Look for example at the demonstration conducted by renown doctors reported in the National Library of Medicine (NIC) in [3] where it is stated that from a study conducted on the safety of Red Light on cancer-hosting tissues it was found that RLT used twice a day had no measurable effect on tumor growth or again the NIH in another study showed the following: "Red Light (RL) phototherapy may also be a beneficial adjunctive melanoma therapy by inhibiting tumor growth and augmenting anti-tumor immune activity."
So we can conclude by saying that Red Light carries no risk when applied over melanoma, except for very few cases nationwide. Our advice is to rely on the experts if you are uncertain, so it is always best to consult a dermatologist or your primary care physician who will surely be able to best advise you on the best course of treatment for your specific situation.
In any case, you know that Red Light is your natural, risk-free ally in promoting wellness in your life and giving you the vitality you have long desired!
