Red Light Therapy for Mental Health ? Exploring Benefits of RLT for Mental Well-begin

Red light therapy depression

Red Light Therapy is a technology that uses light waves of a specific wavelength to stimulate cellular processes, promoting well-being and healing.

Light is not only a physical phenomenon; it is also a real life force that guides our steps, inspires creativity and ignites hope in the darkest moments of our lives.

But what happens when light is taken away?

The PNAS Proceedings of National Academy of Science in [1] conducted an experiment where light was taken away from an experimental group of mice. After six weeks what the researchers noticed was that the neurons that produce norepinephrine, dopamine and serotonin were dying. So neurotransmitters involved in emotion, pleasure and cognition were gradually going to disappear in the absence of light.

In fact again in [1] they write, "Light is an important environmental factor for regulation of mood," so it is important for one's mental health to expose oneself to natural sunlight at least once a day.

At the same time we understand that nowadays it is more and more difficult to take time to spend with the sunshine, life is becoming more and more hectic, and if you like others are struggling to find the space to see some light then you need to try Red Light Therapy!

Yes, Red Light Therapy can also be an effective remedy for treating depression.

Before addressing this topic and demonstrating the effectiveness of this therapy, it is good to point out to you that there are a variety of forms of depression, and for this very reason our advice is to consult a medical specialist before approaching any kind of treatment.

The Harvard Medical School in [2] wrote interesting article from where we can read: "For both seasonal and nonseasonal depression, the effectiveness of light therapy is approximately the same as antidepressant medications, or popular forms of psychotherapy such as cognitive behavioral therapy," so the use of Red Light devices can be as helpful as the effect of an antidepressant but with the difference that the latter is the result of a laboratory and therefore is an artificial remedy.

Why should you take antidepressants with side effects that can cause weight gain, nausea and sexual dysfunction when there is a natural, risk free remedy?

Now you know that when  you cannot count on sunlight, then you can find the same beneficial effects with a Red Light lamp, although the best solution of all remains to go outside for a breath of fresh air and with the opportunity you can expose your face to the magic of the sun's rays. Of course, it’s always good to remember to wear adequate sunscreen for prolonged exposure to ultraviolet rays.

Even if you don't suffer from depression but are not in a too good mood  you can try RLT as due to its working principle it is able to naturally trigger the production of serotonin which is associated with feelings of happiness and well-being. So by increasing serotonin levels your mood will lift making your day definitely better by reducing stress and anxiety.

Enjoy wellbeing with Red Light Therapy, your lighthouse in the fight against depression to illuminate your path to happiness!
