Red Light Therapy is a technology that uses light waves of a specific wavelength to stimulate cellular processes, promoting wellness.
This particular type of therapy is so effective because it does not act directly on the area of discomfort but actually acts on the cells.
In addition to the many benefits RLT can bring to the skin and pain management, it also addresses brain conditions.
But how can red light therapy affect the brain ?
Photobiomodulation, specifically RLT used for Neurological Conditions, is a treatment that uses light to support brain health and performance. It stimulates neurons in the cellular tissue, more specifically neuronal cell organelles called mitochondria.
These units are responsible for energy production in each cell and are critical to brain cell health. Based on clinical neurological studies, it was found that Photobiomodulation could effectively help improve:
- Mental health
- Support for the treatment of various psychiatric disorders
- Recovery from brain injury or stroke
- At the same time it helps people living with a neurodegenerative condition for example Parkinson's, Multiple Sclerosis Alzheimer's and Dementia
The wavelengths from the Red Light, particularly that of the near-infrared light, are able to penetrate human tissue and bone safely, making this therapy a noninvasive option to cover specific areas related to brain diseases.
It promotes neuroprotection, improves brain function, and increases blood flow to the brain. It also reduces inflammation and oxidative stress by stimulating the production of stem cells and synapses between neurons, helping the brain to change its structure and function depending on the activity of its neurons.
RLT has shown promising results in improving cognitive function, slowing age-related cognitive impairment, and treating mental disorders such as Anxiety and Depression. Despite the beneficial effects we would like to mention that Red Light Therapy should be used as a support for comprehensive therapeutic treatment under the supervision of a medical professional.
