How long should you do Red Light Therapy? How long should a red light therapy session last?

how long should you do red light therapy

Red Light Therapy is a technology that uses light waves of a specific wavelength to stimulate cellular processes, promoting well-being and healing.

In recent years, this therapy has received a lot of attention and leading medical studies and universities are enthusiastic about the results so far, in fact it is a great surprise to learn that this treatment has a positive impact on physiological and pathological problems.

When it comes to the question of how long a Red Light should be used, it is important to do it in the right way so as to make the most of its beneficial effects while avoiding incorrect use that could lead to complications.

One thing is certain! That is the fact that not all RLT devices are the same. You should always check your manufacturer instructions where there should be a user manual and also any warnings and contraindications. If your manufacturer does not have the package instructions then our advice is not to trust it, try to find other solutions perhaps choosing devices like NoMore’s and other FDA approved so that you are 100% safe

Usually, when using LLLT devices such as those from NoMore, therapeutic sessions of between 10 and 20 minutes per day are recommended. We specify that the duration and frequency of use vary depending on the specific device chosen. For example, if you have a cold or flu symptoms we recommend the effective and safe NoMoreColds, thanks to its wavelengths of 650 nm if used 10 to 15 minutes a day you can bring relief and well-being already after 6 to 12 sessions of use, although some customers tell us that they have felt less headache and a clearer nose already after only a week of use.

This applies to colds, though. If, on the other hand, we take ACNE as an example, then the time of use varies between 5 and 20 minutes, while for inflammation or muscle pain then the time of use could be longer, up to therapeutic sessions of around 30 minutes or more.

But what happens if I use Red Light for too long?

First of all, it is important for you to know that this therapy is non-toxic, non-invasive and not as harsh as other types of topical skin treatments. Unlike the light used in tanning booths or the sun's ultraviolet UV light, which is known to be carcinogenic, RLT does not use this type of light. I recommend reading our article "Red Light Therapy is it safe?" to find out more.

In any case, there are no risks associated with too much exposure to Red Lights if they have wavelengths that are not strong, i.e. below infrared. Our NoMore devices have been designed and tested in the lab to ensure that they emit waves at 660 nm which falls within the safe range, in fact in a CNN interview where it is written 'If the red light is at too high of a level, it damages skin cells. If at too low of a level, it does nothing,' explains Dr. Brandith Irwin, dermatologist and founder of skintour.com and Concierge Dermatology & Laser in Seattle, Washington.

Many other people ask: What is the recovery time after having an RLT session?

Well, the answer to this question is that there is no recovery time, or rather, there are certain precautions you can take such as avoiding tanning in the 36/48 hours after treatment or avoiding the use of chemicals on the skin immediately after treatment to avoid unpleasant situations such as redness or irritation. If this is not the case for you then you can safely return to your routine after the treatment and enjoy the well-being resulting from the therapy.

Those who are more sensitive might ask: can all people use RLT?

No, not everyone can use the magnificent effect of this type of device. There are in fact special conditions in which the use of RLT is not recommended as it could risk having the opposite effect to the one desired. This special category includes people who are photosensitive to sunlight, who are pregnant, who have eye diseases or infections, and also those with skin cancer. If you also fall into one of these categories, the advice is to consult a trusted physician or dermatologist who will certainly be able to advise you on the best course of treatment for your condition.

So after learning that if Red Light is in the safe frequency range, that every therapeutic device is different and therefore you should always read the associated instruction manual, that the time of each session is variable and that some people cannot do RLT we can conclude by reiterating the fact that it is always a good thing to consult a health specialist in case you have any doubts or are unsure how to approach this revolutionary and amazing therapeutic method that Red Light is!
